I love how african prints and fashion are taking over the fashion scene! One of the most styles I love the most is the dashiki. I love seeing it on men but didn't find it feminine enough for us ladies yet. So I gave it my own twist and turned it into an oversized dashiki dress. It's easy to sew, quick and the result is very colorful
This sewing project is perfect for beginners, intermediate and experts
This DIY Dashiki is for the sizes XS up to XL
As for the length it will look more like a tunic or dress depending on your height.
I'm 1m72 (5ft8) and I can still rock it as a dress (when it's not windy) but mostly as a dashiki tunic
Available in pink & yellow
More colors coming soon! (if you have a preference message me)
This DIY Dashiki Kit has all the DIY tools you need to recreate the look
- Video tutorial DIY Dashiki (see above)
- 2 yards/meter of dashiki fabric
- fabric scissors
Fashion History: Dashiki
In the 19060s the dashiki made its appearance on the American fashion scene when black people embraced the clothing as it expressed the black pride and white counterculture movements.
Did you know that "Dashiki" is a loanword from the West African Yoruba term 'danshiki', which refers to a short, sleeveless tunic worn by men?
